What hardware/software do I need?
Since the program itself resides on the Adobe Connect Pro server at Adobe, Inc., you don't need to install a program to make it work. The program uses your flash-enabled browser (IE, Firefox, Safari) to provide the online meeting experience.
You do need a computer, a browser and an Internet connection. The better the Internet connection, the better the Adobe Connect experience. Adobe Connect handles the visuals quite well, but for a meeting with several participants (more than 3 or 4) interactive discussions will be best if you use a telephone (or phone conferencing system) for audio and just use Adobe Connect for the visuals, chats, whiteboards, polls, etc. A webcam will allow you to send your image and audio if it has a built-in microphone. You can use your computer speakers or headphones.
When you sign-in for the first time using a specific computer, you will be prompted to allow the Adobe Connect server to install the Adobe Connect Plug-in. This is needed by your browser to allow Presenters and Hosts show Powerpoints, photos, documents, etc. The plug-in will be required for those activities. Its installation is very quick, just a couple seconds, then you are disconnected from the server and immediately reconnected to the same meeting. Participants, your viewers, will not be prompted to install this add-in.
