Remote Desktop from PC to PC
- Enable Remote Desktop on your computer at work:
- Right click Computer
- Click PropertiesClick Remote settings
- Under Remote Desktop section, select Allow connections from ..., or select Allow users to connect...
- Click OK.
- Find out the IP address of your computer at work:
- Click Start
- Click All Programs
- Click Accessories
- Click Command Prompt
- In the Command Prompt, type ipconfig and press the Enter key
- Take a note of the IPv4 Address (aka IP Address), as you will need this when you are at home
- Obtain the VPN password:
- Logon to ANR Portal at http://my.ucanr.org
- Click Remote Desktop under Office Network Information
- Click Send the password link on the left
- On your home computer, download and install Cisco VPN Client from ANR Portal:
- Logon to ANR Portal at http://my.ucanr.org
- Click Remote Desktop under Office Network Information
- Click Download Cisco VPN Client Software to download the VPN Client
- Double click the file you downloaded to install the VPN Client
- Restart your computer as needed
- Establish a VPN connection to your office network
- Click Start
- Click All Programs
- Click Cisco Systems VPN Client
- Click VPN Client
- Click the Connect button
- Enter the VPN username and password that was emailed to you, and press the OK button
- After the VPN connection is established, the VPN Client window will minimize and a lock will appear in the system tray.
- Start a Remote Desktop session
- Click Start
- Click All Programs
- Click Accessories
- Click Remote Desktop Connection
- Type the IP address of your computer at work in the Computer drop down field
- Click Connect
- You will be prompted for your office computer's user ID and password
