Question

How do I open or create .ZIP files ?

Answer

If you are using Windows XP, Vista, or 7 you can open .zip files by double clicking them.  You will see the contents of the .zip file and be able to view them, but it is best to extract the files before using them.  If you double-clicked the .zip file you can either drag the files or folders out of the window to another location.  Alternatively you can right-click the .zip file and select the Extract all... option and follow the steps to get the files.
To create a .zip file select all of the files or folders you want zipped, then right-click one of them.  Select the Send to option, then select Compressed (zipped) folder. The new .zip file will be named with the same name as the item you right-clicked on to start the process and will be in the same location as well.

For Mac OS X users you can open .zip files by  double-clicking as well. A new folder will be created (with the same name as the .zip file) with the extracted files in it.
To create a .zip file select all of the files or folders you want zipped, then right-click (or control-click) one of them. Choose the Create Archive option from the pop-up menu and your .zip file will be created for you.
