Single Sign on (SSO)
UC ANR is changing how we access digital resources with Single Sign On (SSO)
Academics, staff, and affiliates will soon be required to use a new login system to access to a number of systems, including the UC ANR Portal and third-party services, such as Zoom, Zendesk, Interfolio, SiteImprove, UCRecruit and more.
NOTE: The UC ANR Single Sign-On system is not to be confused with Duo, the new Multifactor Authentication system required for access to UC Davis systems and email. A separate effort to integrate Duo to the new UC ANR SSO will happen later this year.
The new SSO system was created initially to meet the requirements of UCPath, the new payroll and human resources system. However, it also helps UC ANR manage users across a whole ecosystem of applications and services, while also decreasing the risk of unauthorized intrusion.
A number of us have been using the system in recent weeks, and it will be rolled out to the rest of UC ANR according to the schedule found on the right. Like Duo, SSO is not required for volunteers and collaborators who use UC ANR tools through the Portal.
Transitioning to SSO
The transition to SSO should happen seamlessly. Instead of using the standard Portal login or a UC Trust link, you will be redirected to the new login page, where you enter your username and password.
Your username is different than your email and probably the same as the Kerberos username you have used in the past. To view your username, look at the top left portion of your UC ANR Portal. We have added it under your basic information to help with this transition.
If you reset your password after April 2018, you will be able to use that password and your username in the new SSO. If you have not reset your password, please follow the instructions below to do so.
How to reset your password
Earlier this year, we asked everyone to reset passwords in preparation to launch this system. If you have not done so, you will need to reset your password now. You only need to do this once.
Please use the following instructions to reset your password:
- Go to https://ucanr.edu/portal/login/universalforgotpass.cfm
- Enter your email address or username.
- You should get a password reset email with a link
- Set the password
- Once the password is reset, you are redirected to the portal profile editor
- Under the "View Profile" screen you’ll see your username.
NOTE: The link in the password reset email only works once, and is time-limited. If you click on it by mistake or wait for over a day, you will need to start the procedure again.
Password reset rules
New passwords must follow certain rules:
- at least 12 characters long
- not contain your exact username, first or last name
- contain uppercase, lowercase, digits and symbols
Once you get a Password Updated Successfully message, you can proceed to logging into SSO.
Logging in with SSO
As noted previously, the new SSO uses usernames, not email addresses, to authenticate users. Your username can be found on the top left section of the UC ANR Portal, under your basic information. Use that username and your new password to login to SSO.
Once you have authenticated successfully with the new SSO system, you will have access to UCANR resources and affiliated third party services.
